About the Project
Just recently I was hired on as a Director for a unique project in NYC for Merivale. The film was pretty self-explanatory, they wanted to document their Sommelier’s experience in NYC in the city and during an official tasting. The end goal was to tell the unique story of Jean-Charles and his trip to NYC in preparation for his October Master Sommelier certification.
My Role
As stated already, I was hired on as the Director for this one day shoot. We had a great crew on board and we’re excited to see the final piece once it’s made public (still in the edit phase). During the day not only was I in charge of conducting Jean-Charles’ interview, but my goals were to capture him within the massive city that is NYC in an engaging and creative way that captured Jean Charle’s history in finance and current career in wine.
Key Challenge
Our biggest challenge wasn’t in dealing with the traffic or overly crowded NYC. It was our official tasting that was supposed to happen that day.
It got canceled.
But as with any creative challenges that arise, I was able to acquire permission (with the help of Jean-Charles, helps to have a Sommelier in your back pocket) to imitate a tasting in a local wine bar in NYC. In the end we were able to capture some fantastic content of our Sommelier in the concrete jungle of New York City. We know Merivale will be excited to see the end result!
